Happy book birthday to Self-Portrait as a Sinking Ship by Erica Abbott!
The confessional-style of this poetry chapbook explores themes of depression, anxiety, and how mental illness can affect a person’s life. It also dives into how holding on to hope can pull a person through even the darkest moments of life.
This is Erica Abbott’s debut chapbook. She has lived in the Greater Philadelphia area her whole life and has become more involved in the Philly literary community in recent years through Toho and local events. Abbott went to college in a suburb of Philadelphia and, pre-pandemic, loved to go into the city during the weekends to catch a show or check out a new restaurant or bookstore.
